extra help deputy
This role is for peace officer retirees. In this role, you’ll serve as a sworn peace officer in a flexible, extra-help capacity—mainly assigned to court security, civil functions, and patrol support. You’ll ensure the safety and security of court proceedings and help maintain law and order in the community, while benefiting from the reputation and community-oriented policing culture of Napa County.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
Possession of a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate (or administrative proof of enrollment for out-of-state laterals).
Valid California driver’s license (or ability to obtain one upon hire).
- Retirement as a peace officer from a California P.O.S.T. agency.
- No felony convictions.
Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical exam, and psychological evaluation.
Note: Extra-Help assignments are non-benefited, up to 960 hours per fiscal year, and are not eligible for regular promotion pathways.
